Frozen Tofu Masala Nuggets
The complex texture of frozen tofu is amazing as it’s more similar to real chicken meat at the same time much easier to absorb the flavor of the marinade.
Directions
- Freeze ❄a whole piece of tofu (350 grams) overnight and start to unfreeze it in home temperature several hours before cooking.
- Press the tofu HARD (need to be pressed, especially frozen tofu contains a lot of water)!
- Tear the tofu to individual cubes (it looks more like nuggets when you tear instead of cut).
- Marinade the tofu cubes with light soy sauce, garlic powder and a little bit of honey for 10 minutes (frozen tofu’s texture absorb the sauce super fast, so don’t marinate so long in case to not become super salty).
- Prepared three bowls: Bowl 1 with some flour. Bowl 3 with almond milk mixed with a little bit apple vinegar and curcuma powder. Bowl 3 with breadcrumbs mixed with masala powder, red paprika powder, garlic powder, black pepper and yeast (optional).
- Pass the marinated tofu cubes through the three bowls by sequence.
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees
- Place a piece of baking paper on a tray and paint some olive oil on it.
- Place the prepared tofu cubes on the paper (line them up nicely :D).
- Put the tray into the preheated oven and bake for around 25 minutes. It’s necessary to flip the tofu cubes once so the tofu cubes get “tanned” and crunchy evenly!
- Prepare some dipping sauce while baking. We cooked peanut butter together with almond milk, honey, light soy sauce, clove and cinnamon powder in a middle heated pan.
- Enjoy! 😋
